Melissa Sanderson
After 21 years in the US diplomatic service Melissa 'Mel' Sanderson entered the critical minerals space as VP for Africa of Freeport McMoRan in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where she played a key role in the successful construction of the Tenke Fungumrume copper-cobalt mine. In 2020 she retired from Freeport to open her own consultancy focused on the complex geostrategic and social challenges of building a secure and defensible Western critical minerals integrated supply chain. She is co-Chair of the Critical Minerals Institute, Chair of Advanced Energy Fuels and a member of the Boards of American Rare Earths and the Critical Minerals forum. She also is a Professor at Thunderbird School of Global Management.
