High-purity silica quartz is arguably one of the most overlooked critical materials in the modern economy. It sits at the foundation of semiconductors, computer chips, solar panels, advanced electronics and national-defense technologies, yet receives a fraction of the attention given to lithium, rare earths or critical metals. In the United States, enormous investment is being directed toward securing and expanding domestic semiconductor and advanced-manufacturing capacity, but far less attention is paid to the specialized raw materials that make that manufacturing possible. Without secure supplies of sufficiently high-purity silica quartz, the downstream factories, fabs and technologies being built today remain dependent on a small and concentrated upstream supply chain—making silica a largely invisible but strategically important link in the push for supply-chain security. In addition, the process from silica to a semi conductor or computer chip or other end products involves advanced processing to make intermediatory products like Silicon, Polysilicon, Silicon Metal and others, before going into the factories, fabs and technology to manufacture these end products.  The importance of this advanced processing is a critical part of the security of the North American supply chain.
